Introduction to Animation: Moving
Pictures (3rd Grade)
Moving Pictures uses hands-on animation projects
to introduce ideas of storytelling and sequencing to children
ages 8-9. Starting with simple pre-cinematic devices such
as thaumatropes, zoetropes, and flipbooks, students learn
the basic frame-by-frame structure of moving pictures. Once
students have gained an understanding of basic animation
concepts, they use digital video cameras and FrameThief
computer animation software to create stop-motion animations
of their own design.
